What has happened to the Euro and World Champs?

Spain crashed out of the confederations cup yesterday (admittedly in the final) to a, very aggressive to say the least, Brazilian team playing on their home turf. It wasn't just a victory for Brazil, it was a thrashing. 3-0 to Joga Bonito. But the game wasn't played with flair alone. The Brazilians came out from the start with high energy and pressed Spain high up the field. This meant that the Spanish could not get their possession game going and Brazil dominated with their more athletic looking players. Spain just could not get a grip on the game, a rare sight with this generation of Spanish technicians. But this result begs the question: Has the solution to beating the Spanish 'Tiki Taka' style of play finally been revealed. We saw it in the champions league this year as well with Bayern Munich dismissing Barcelona from the competition with a 7-0 agg. scoreline.

Quite impressive to say the least considering Barcelona's dominance in recent times. Bayern Munich employed a similar tactic to beat Barca as the Brazilians did to beat spain: press high up the field. The problem with Spain, and similarly with Barcelona, is that they do not have a 'plan B' so to speak. When the passing game is not working, they have no where to go and ultimately, can get sort of 'bullied' off the ball and out of the game. Football moves in cycles and maybe the spanish style is nearing the end of its dominance in the european game. Only time will tell. I, for one, can't wait to see how Spain respond for next years World Cup in Brazil, and even before that, how Barcelona will respond in the upcoming European season and the Champions League. They might have to tweak their style to stay up with the times.

Still Overrated?

Still think this guy is overrated after the Confederations Cup?

Neymar proved on a world stage that he can be a big time player and showed why Barca splashed $75 mil. to bring him to the Camp Nou this summer. Neymar + Messi = scary combination for the opposition defense.

If you are an opposition defender, do you really want to see these two coming against you next season for Barca??
